Explainations of Hypnotherapy & NLP

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis or trance states are naturally occurring states which we all drift in and out of throughout our day. For example have you ever daydreamed your way through a meeting? Or travelled somewhere without remembering much about the journey? These are trance states, you know what is going on around you whilst being completely relaxed like being in a "daydream". Studies have shown that we spend 90% of our time in such states.

There is no one definitive explanation of what hypnosis is and it's interesting to note that everybody experiences it in a very different way, but the main feeling everyone experiences is a profound sense of relaxation.

What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

Cognitive hypnotherapy uses an approach to therapy which is tailored to suit the person. This is because we are all different and all give different meanings and reasons to the things that happen to us.

Cognitive hypnotherapy differs from many other forms available because it aims to offer you a modern approach to therapy using the very latest ideas and techniques. Our role as the therapist is to act as a guide to help you find your own solutions so that you can take control of your own life once again.

Within Cognitive hypnotherapy we believe that everyone has all the inner resources they need to solve their problem. As a cognitive hypnotherapist I do not believe that there is a universal solution. This is on the basis that we all already unconsciously possesses the answers to our own questions. Cognitive hypnotherapy uses your natural trance states to assist in uncovering the thoughts and memory patterns that led to the problem your experiencing. Cognitive hypnotherapy employs techniques to modify these patterns so that you are able to consciously take control of your behaviour by using naturally occurring states to enable change by by-passing the conscious mind which is holding the the problem state.

What is NLP?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming was devised in the 1970s by John Grinder and Richard Bandler. Their findings were based on the study of the work of Fritz Perls the founder of Gestalt psychology, family therapist Virginia Satir and Milton H Erickson a world famous psychotherapist and hypnotherapist.

Neuro - It is accepted that we experience the world through the neurological processes of our five senses. We then make sense of that information and act on it.
Linguistic -
We use language to order our thoughts and behaviour; and to communicate with others.
Programming -
The programming refers to way we choose to organise our ideas and actions to produce results.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming can help you reframe your way of interpreting your experiences. When used in conjunction with hypnotherapy you will find that NLP exercises can help you access your subconscious mind and start to understand where certain feelings and emotions are rooted in you. This will help you to break negative belief patterns and expectations you may have about yourself and your life and help you to start focusing on successful outcomes.
